Courtney Shanade Salter, also called Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's the first artist of female gender with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. In October 2016, Ari Lennox released her debut EP Pho. This was the moment that she received recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album, debuted on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox first released music online in 2012. She released her debut album Ariography as well as her debut mixtape in 2013 the mixtape Five Finger Discount. The first single, called Whipped Cream of the album was released on the 5th of September, 2018 and featured a a music video. Then, in November, she released the singles 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. She then released on November 13 two new singles, titled No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released in her debut single the 26th of February, 2019, to accompany the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby was featured alongside Cole as part of The Creed II sound track on November 16. In February of 2019, the video music for this song was released. The track has garnered more than 3 million YouTube views in just one week. As a supporting act She toured with 6LACK during December 2018 on their From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
